Of all the places in the world, these are my picks on the top 10 cities you can’t miss in 2016:

10. Abisko, Sweden

Ever dreamed of seeing the northern lights?

Well, Abisko is your premier destination to do it. Get there between October and March every year and you’ll have a great chance of witnessing this natural phenomenon.

Remember, the weather is crazy-temperamental up there, so stay for a few days to account for the chance cloud cover ruins your viewing on a few nights.

Whilst up there, try your hand at dogsledding, ice wall climbing, mountaineering, and ice fishing. Don’t forget a spare pair of underwear to keep the crown jewels warm.

9. Melbourne, Australia

If you didn’t hear, Australia is host to two very large sporting events in 2015. The 2015 Asian Cup and 2015 Cricket World Cup are both being held in Australia. So, naturally, Melbourne, being the self-proclaimed sporting capital of the world, is the place to be this year.

Top that with the best exchange rate tourists have seen in 6 years and you’ve got yourself a great time to travel to the lucky country.

8. Gent, Belgium

A city from a storybook of old, Gent offers some of the most beautiful architecture in Europe along with affordable lodging, tasty treats, and a great proximity to other sights like Han-sur-lesse caves!

7Siem Reap, Cambodia

Cambodia has come leaps and bounds in the last decade when it comes to welcoming tourists through the door. It’s getting more popular every year to visit the ancient civilisation of Angkor Wat down the road. So before it becomes another Great Wall of China, get your butt to Cambodia and check this place out in relative tranquility.

6. Torres Del Paine, Chile

This place has to be one of the most beautiful national parks in the world. The W route is a challenging but more than doable 5day hike with some of the most breathtaking views the world has to offer.

It’s still a venue for the ‘hiker’s and enthusiasts, but is becoming more and more popular as stories of its beauty are spread around the internet

Get here asap to ensure you get the authentic experience.

5. Annapurna, Nepal

Another hiking experience that is increasingly become popular with the masses.

This high altitude region should be right at the top of your list. Flights to Kathmandu are becoming increasingly cheaper as the volumes increase, and so are the hiking tours.

Again, get in before it becomes a theme park.

4. Serengeti, Tanzania

Once upon a time you could go to the Serengeti and never see another safari truck for hours. Those times have changed in recent years, but witnessing the great migration of hundreds of thousands of wildebeest is still an experience that is unmatched.

At that point, the power of nature hits you and will change you forever.

Why come now? Well the Serengeti needs your support. You see, the government wants to build a bitumen road right through the middle of it, effectively ending the great loop the wildebeest take.

This would spell the end of a huge ecosystem, and possibly the majority of the Serengeti National Park.

Head there asap to send your words of support and witness this great natural wonder before civilization ruins it again.

3. Manila, The Philippines

The Philippines is one of those places that is often forgotten when you think of a tropical beach paradise. Turquoise waters, coconuts, beach shacks, deserted islands; The Philippines has it all.

It’s also so cheap you’re bank account will want you to move their permanently.

Get here before it becomes another Phuket or Bali.

 2. Virunga National Park, Rwanda

The Mountain Gorillas of the Virunga are at a very fragile precipice right now. Numbering in only the hundreds left in the wild, stranded on their mountain islands amongst civilization, these guys live in such a precarious position that it may only take a civil war to eradicate them completely.

For the adventurous type, these guys are a must see before they are wiped off the face of the earth.

1. Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

Number 1 goes to the secluded island of Galapagos.

For the first time in a century, babies of the endangered Pinzon giant tortoise have been born in the wild in the Galapagos Islands. This has occurred due to the tireless efforts of conservationists to eradicate the alien rat population on the island, which prevented other species reproducing.

The balance is being restored on these historic islands, life is flourishing, which is why a tour to check out this world heritage site should be at the top of your list.
